Leadership and Regulation at the “Bridging Borders: Poland–Latvia Fintech Collaboration” Roundtable
Pedersen & Partners was represented by Evita Lune, Equity Partner and Global Head of the FinTech Practice Group, at the “Bridging Borders: Poland–Latvia Fintech Collaboration” roundtable, organised by FinTech Poland and Magnetiq Bank.
The discussion, hosted by Jakub Więcław, brought together fintech leaders and ecosystem stakeholders to explore the opportunities and practical challenges of scaling fintech businesses across Poland, Latvia, and the wider Baltic region.
The session opened with remarks from Tomasz Szeratics, Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Latvia, who set the context for stronger cooperation between the Polish and Latvian business communities.
Evita shared perspectives on the leadership requirements for regulated fintech companies, including neobanks, payment institutions, EMIs, and companies seeking MiCA-related licences.
The conversation also addressed regulatory expectations for C-level executives and board members in licensed fintech businesses. Evita shared her experience of working with the Bank of Latvia, highlighting the regulator’s openness to guiding executive search firms on the effective design of boards and leadership teams for fintech companies seeking a licence in Latvia.
Several important themes stood out:
- Polish fintech companies are showing strong interest in Latvia as a potential licensing hub.
- Leadership and board composition are becoming increasingly important in regulatory approval processes.
- Regional cooperation between Poland, Latvia, and the wider Baltic market can play a meaningful role in supporting fintech growth.
It was also valuable to see the continued role of FinTech Poland and Magnetiq Bank in strengthening regional dialogue, supporting ecosystem cooperation, and contributing to the development of the fintech landscape across Poland, Latvia, and the wider Baltic region.
